The workshop was inaugurated by H.H. Sri. Vishwapriya Theertha Swamiji, President of Udupi Sri Admar Mutt Educational Council at 9.30am on the 24th of September 2019. The chief guest of the inaugural function was Sri. Sheshashayana K, Depty Director of Public Information, Udupi and was presided by Dr. Raghavendra A, Principal, Poornaprajna College Udupi and Mrs. Prathibha Acharya, H.O.D Physics was present. The inaugural function was followed by the various sessions on Astronomy and Eclipses. Dr. A.P Bhat, Retd. Principal, Poornaprajna College, was the first speaker who spoke on the topic “Wonders of Cosmos†followed by Mr. Vignesh Bhat, Scientific Officer, Pilikula Regional Science Center who spoke on the Pilikula Regional Science Center & Swami Vivekananda Planetarium and their activities in the morning session. The afternoon sessions were comprised of talks by Mr. Atul Bhat, Co-ordinator, Poornaprajna Amateur Astronomers Club, on Eclipses and Mr. Mahesh P.N., Dept. of Physics, Center for Advanced Learning, Mangalore who spoke on the topic, “Bring Galaxies to your classroomsâ€. The lecture sessions were followed by a Hands-on session on Safe Eclipse Viewing Techniques where the students of Poornaprajna College taught the participant teachers about various apparatus that can be used to view Solar Eclipse safely. The valedictory session of the workshop began at 4.00 pm with the Chief guest Dr. B.M Somayaji, Retd. Prof. in Chemistry, Poornaprajna College and President, Poornaprajna College Old Student Association. Prof. Venkatesh Bhat, Dept of Physics, Vijaya College Mulky and Treasurer, Association of Physics Teachers of Mangalore University and Mr. Pradeep Kumar, Treasurer, Poornaprajna College Management Committee were the guests of Honor. Dr. Raghavendra A, Principal, Poornaprajna College presided over the program. The Workshop was attended by a total of 160 teachers from 110 institutions from Udupi and Dakshina Kannada Districts. All the institutions that participated were provided with a Pin Hole apparatus and an option to purchase the Ball-Mirror apparatus and Eclipse viewing goggles prepared by the students of the college. Apart form workshop sessions, the students of our college also prepared and presented various experiments in physics and demonstrations.
